AGU Ranks 37th Globally, 1st in Türkiye in THE Impact Rankings 2025!
Abdullah Gül University (AGU) has achieved a remarkable milestone in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, emerging as a global leader in higher education’s contribution to sustainable development. Ranked 37th among 2,526 universities worldwide, AGU also secured the top position among all Turkish universities, affirming its strong commitment to societal impact and sustainability.
The rankings, announced at the Global Sustainable Development Congress held in Istanbul in collaboration with the Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and THE, assess universities' performance based on their contributions to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A Notable Presence in Global Sustainability Efforts
AGU didn’t just make waves in the overall ranking — it also earned exceptional recognition in individual SDG categories, placing in the Top 50 globally in eight different areas:
- Affordable and Clean Energy – 3rd in the world
- Climate Action – 6th
- No Poverty – 7th
- Quality Education – 8th
- Decent Work and Economic Growth – 14th
- Sustainable Cities and Communities – 17th
- Responsible Consumption and Production – 25th
- Life on Land – 25th
This broad-based success reflects AGU’s deep integration of sustainability into its institutional mission — from research and education to community engagement.
Four Turkish Universities in the Global Top 100
Following AGU’s lead, three other Turkish universities also made it into the global Top 100:
- Istanbul Technical University (ITU) – 48th
- Bahçeşehir University – 59th
- Middle East Technical University (METU) – 96th
However, AGU stands out as Türkiye’s top performer, placing the country firmly on the global stage in terms of higher education’s societal role.
